Mad Day

My daughter started her third year of college on Monday. Time has come and gone so fast these past few years it’s crazy. Last night she had her first nursing class and it was madness. With nursing become so popular lately, a lot of people are either switching degrees or starting a new one. Anyway, there were over 65 people gathered for last night’s lecture

The teacher went bananas, so the head of the department came by and split  the class. Now she has around 25. Nursing is becoming one of the most popular and well paid careers, but you need to be born a nurse, I guess. The dedication, sacrifice, empathy and endurance to deal with the sick is not a money game. So many people go into the profession for the money and the patient is the one that pays. A nurse have to love what she does in order to be efficient. It is a beautiful profession with bitter sweet outcomes. Only the dedicated succeed in every aspect

I have talked to my daughter long and hard about this issue and she is certain of it. She will be a neonatal nurse, specializing on preemies. She loves kids (I don’t know where she gets it) and has the stamina to serve well. I wish her the best. Good speed darling!

La Vida Loca

It means “the crazy life”. That’s what it is when you have to spend 7 hours in a place waiting for something. Case in point, the university yesterday, schedule day, my daughter’s classes. After waiting in admissions for one hour, we went to the nursing department and waited for about 6 hours because there were only 2 people doing schedules and about 20 students there. The interview lasted around 30 minutes a piece, so you can imagine. Students were sent away after 3:00 pm. No relief in sight. With no breakfast or lunch, we were famished. Just a coke and a snickers bar from the vending machine.

In our case, we were there over an hour due to a little problem with the transcriptions. After all said and done, we had to go register and certify the classes but there were no less than a 100 students in that office, so forget it! I was about to pass out from hunger (my blood sugar is stupid). Soo, we went this morning (about an hour drive) and finished the fraking thing.

After that we visited the classrooms to get a layout of the place so she won’t get lost Monday. And Monday, we have to go to the financial office to get the grant certified. Thank goodness she got the full amount this year, but I still have to paid some tuition and the books. Oh, well. At least it’s a help.

Saturday we will go shopping. Tons of stuff for the future nurse. Love it! crazy

New School

Well, my daughter is moving from Turabo to Interamerican University. The classes in the latter are all in English, and since she is having such “difficulty” learning Spanish, we think is the best move. Besides, this school is accredited by the National Association of Nurses and the other was not. She wasted a year. Hopefully they will credit her some of the courses she took.

Only downfall: the classes are all at night, some on Saturdays,  and the school is over 45 minutes drive from home. The only one in the island with an English curriculum in Nursing.

Anyway, she is excited and looking forward to start. We went to the orientation and it’s unbelievable the branches of this amazing career. A nurse can even achieve a doctor’s degree. I didn’t know that! The counselor is a nurse, so she explained to us all the aspects of it. My daughter wants to be a neonatal nurse, but according to the counselor, there are so many opportunities to move within the profession, that she may change her interest later on.

The classes start on August 3rd, so I will post her progress. I’m so happy for her!applause

Back to School

Since the 19th, it has been a mad house. My daughter started college and I have to drive her there every day. It take us atbtschool least an hour to get down, due to the traffic and driving through the mountains. But so far she likes her school. Thursday was a loony day searching for her books. We visited several textbook catered bookstores and it was crazy! Long lines and a hot and humid day. Kids and parents everywhere looking for books. Very expensive the books here by the way. After searching, waiting and hoping, we only found 2 of the 3 she needs. Not bad at all. The best part, used. I didn’t have to pay full price. Good day indeed! Now, the only thing left is for her to get her license so she can drive herself. This traveling up and down the mountain is exhausting!

Good Day!

We went to the university yesterday and it was a good experience. My daughter got a conditioned admission because she has not taken the SAT yet. That will be October 4th. After that, she will be integrated full time. Is a good thing so she doesn’t miss the school year. The campus is lovely, and so far the people we met was very friendly. Thursday she has to take a test to see were her educational level is and fill out other paperwork to start in August. I’m so happy that finally we see something taking shape in her life.

bangingOn a side note, it has never happen to me, but due to the excitement, I locked my keys in the car and had to call for help. I tried opening the car myself but these new cars are very difficult to brake into! It was hilarious! Tomorrow I will stop @ Home Depot to make some copies for my purse.

With all the excitment, I almost forgot my 24th anniversary is today. Ooops!
